I became a writer at age 13 when I read The Sea-Wolf by Jack London.

I became an educator at age 19 when I began teaching college access lessons through CSLAP, and later teaching high school at age 22.

I became a scholar when  I published my first peer-reviewed article in graduate school at age 24.

I became an entrepreneur when I incorporated CSLAP as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit at age 25.

I became a candidate for the Texas State Board of Education at age 28.
